The LocalAll is not well in Blackwood. The Five Houses are at a political stand-off, as usual, but increased threats from outside the city limits pose great threats.
Set Me UpThere are five prominent houses within Blackwood that lead the city in one direction or another. They have each played an important part in making Blackwood what it is today.
Digging the PastThe area of Blackwood can be picked up and plugged into your world. Select any location on the fringes of civilization and Blackwood will fit perfectly.
Blackwood sits in the middle of the an ancient forest with mountain ranges on two sides. The climate can be cold and unforgiving but the land can produce massive wealth for those brave enough. There have been reports of a gathering Orc horde to the northwest as well as increased Gnoll numbers in the forests nearest Blackwood. The citizens of Blackwood are feeling anxious but the squabble of the Five Houses are the cause of that.
Blackwood is filled with a variety of colorful characters that will keep your players engaged for hours getting to know them better and helping them with quests. Here are the major NPC's your players will likely meet.
Known as Holstaad and head of his house. Arlo's father spent the family into ruins and it has fallen upon Arlo to try and reclaim the wealth, and prestige his father lost. Arlo himself is loved by the townsfolk because they see him as one of them. He wants to keep the integrity of Blackwood and is against House Slovin and BnB Trading Company
Bree Slovin, daughter of the wealthy Lord Sloivn, uses her riches to pay adventurer's the seek out ancient and exotic items for her.
Leader of House Raas, Horace takes great pride that his family is the oldest of all the houses in Blackwood. He despises House Slovin and BnB Trading Company.
A Half-Elf that despises the rustic and rural nature of Blackwodd, but loves gold is sent by BnB Trading Company to Manage their outpost located Northwest of Blackwood.
Blackwood is awash with disagreements between the Five Houses. House Slovin wishes to bring in BnB Trading company to increase supply, and demand, for the coveted wooden craft and art pieces made from the magical trees surrounding Blackwood. However, not all the house agree with this.
Blackwood was settled a few hundered year ago by Dress Ironhide. What brought Dress and his compatriots so far from civilization has been lost but his legend lives one. Wild beasts were rife in the area, including multiple Orc hordes that have constantly plagued the town for the few centuries since it's settlement.
In the time since the Five Houses: Kelda, Slove, Holstaad, Raas, and Brine each have a member that sits on the Council of Five. Times have been relatively good as of late, but with BnB Trading company coming into play the boat is starting to rock. There have also been rumors of growing numbers of Orv tribes, a mysterious cult kidnapping people and burning down towns.
This adventure is designed for level one characters but can be curtailed to fit any Dungeon Master's needs.
