I graduated from Iowa State in 2015 with Bachelor's of Science segrees in Global Resource Systems and Forestry with a minor in Horticulture
While at Iowa State I fell In love with a beautiful woman who had two years left of grad school, and wanted to stay in Iowa close to family.
I've been looking for, and failing to find, a natural resource job for over a year now becuase I live in the only state without a national park (yes, even Nebraska has one). I decided to try something new; learn Web Development.
Dont't let my Natural Resource background fool you, I'm a nerd (or a geek? I'm never sure which) and gamer through and through. I grew up playing videos games and still do (PC Master Race!), I wrote a 500 page fantasy novel (I'm not saying it's tolken caliber), and I dungeon master Dungeons and Dragons for two different groups (snarky comment is unnecessary for this one).
I don't have the traditional web development background but I do have desire, determination, drive. I spend hours everyday learning and pacticing HTML, CSS, Bootstrap, jQuery, and others. I will keep learning until I have a career in the web development field.
I've developed a deep passion for creative endeavours and pour myself into them for, days, weeks, and in the case of my book, years at a time. I seek to improve everyday and delight in learning new things, which is what draws me to web development. Each day, I learn more, I improve, and I become a better person and web develeoper.
I want to do something I care about. I don't want to spend each day going to a job I dislike just so I can pay my bills. I want a career I'm proud of. I want to be excited waking up every morning because I love what I do and go to sleep with a sense of accomplishment.
I wrote a novel while a full-time student with a part-time job. The project took me four years but I sacrificed my free time because it was something I wanted to achieve. I've also gone from zero HTML and CSS experience to creating this site.
I've spent a combined 18 weeks in Uganda and China. I learned how to be humble, have an open mind, and work through any sort of problems that arise. I don't give up easily and try everything I can to solve a problem.
I felt like I needed one more row here to tie things together. I'm sure I could have come up with some more buzzwords and phrases to draw you in like "Integrity" or "Optimize". But you're a smart person and a few more fancy words aren't going to win you over, but if they will "Teamwork" Succes" "Green Energy" just for good measures.
I'm pretty easy going and easy to get along with. I'm not stranger to hard work and I think my progess in web design shows that. I've only been practicing for a few months and I feel like I've tremendous progress and I'll only get better. I just need a chance.
Hopefully you get the 5th Element joke too. I'm sure it was kind of amusing if you remember the movie and utterly confusing if you didn't. The 5th Element was a Sci-Fi film from the 90's where Bruce Willis has to use the elements (fire, water, ect.) to save the universe and it turned out, the 5th element was love all along.
